Register interestSituation. Signs and menus: what you see in your first hour in Korea.
Can-do. I can sound out Hangul, and say the five greeting phrases.
Chunks. 안녕하세요 · 감사합니다 · 죄송합니다 · 저는 [이름]이에요 · 한국어 잘 못해요
Pronunciation gym. What it takes to sound out. ㅓ/ㅗ if there is time.
The mission. Read a sign to your partner, who has four signs and has to point out the right one: four short rounds with a new partner each time.
Why. Four short rounds instead of two long ones, because decoding tires you quickly and every new partner gives a new sign to read. The phrases come last, when the eyes are tired but the ears are not.
Situation. The first meeting and a café.
Can-do. I can introduce myself, ask back and order a coffee.
Chunks. 안녕하세요 · 저는 [이름]이에요 · 스웨덴에서 왔어요 · 이름이 뭐예요? · 이거 주세요 · [음식] 하나요 · 감사합니다
Language focus. [이름]이에요/예요 if the introduction needs it. Nothing more.
Pronunciation gym. ㅓ/ㅗ, briefly.
The mission. Introduce yourself and order a coffee from the staff, who have the menu you cannot see; then swap.
Why. The same task as Survival Korean lesson 3 in miniature, so that you recognise it if you continue. The session ends with a 60-second recording: your proof, and your starting point if you go on.
